Dr René de Monchy

NEW ZEALAND

“True healthcare involves more than just physical well-being; it requires a holistic approach that considers mental and emotional health as integral parts of the whole human being within their spiritual sense of purpose in life.

Profession: Psychiatrist

Position: Dr. René de Monchy has been an outspoken critic of the official COVID-19 response, particularly regarding the psychological impact of lockdowns and restrictions on mental health. He has voiced significant concerns about the lack of open debate and the fact that the “Art of Medicine” has been perverted under influence of pharmaceutical companies on healthcare policies on the one hand and political/bureaucratic control on the other hand.

Background

Dr. de Monchy, originally from Holland, began his medical career with training in surgery, obstetrics, and tropical medicine, inspired by a desire to work in Africa. At age 50, after 22 years working as a holistic GP in New Zealand, he spent four transformative years in Zimbabwe, where he was profoundly influenced by the resilience of the local people and the concept of Ubuntu, the concept of ‘te All’, in which the human being is seen as interactive part and co-participant of all of life and matter in the universe.  . This experience deepened his understanding of the interconnectedness of humanity and shaped his holistic approach to medicine.

Initially in 1975, after moving to New Zealand, Dr. de Monchy worked as a general practitioner for 23 years before working in Africa and after that he specialised in psychiatry. His practice has always emphasised a patient-centred approach, blending conventional and complementary therapies, including anthroposophy. Known for his compassionate care, he has supported medical colleagues and focused on trauma and mood and anxiety disorders. Throughout his career, he has been a vocal advocate for mental health and personal freedom, engaging in both clinical practice and academic roles, such as a senior clinical lecturer at the Wellington School of Medicine.

Actions & Outcomes

Dr. de Monchy has been an outspoken advocate for personal freedom and mental health throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. He publicly challenged the psychological harm caused by lockdowns, the lack of informed consent, and the influence of pharmaceutical companies on healthcare policies. Speaking at public forums, writing articles, and engaging in videos and debates, he has highlighted the need for a balanced, humane approach to public health. He is also one of the founding members of NZDSOS (NZ Doctors speaking out with Science).

When mandated to receive the COVID vaccine, Dr. de Monchy chose to prioritise medical ethics and personal choice, resulting in the loss of his hospital position. Despite this, his stance inspired many, and he has continued to raise awareness about the societal and mental health impacts of coercive healthcare measures.

Current Status

Dr. de Monchy continues to work as a psychiatrist in New Zealand, offering compassionate care to his patients while advocating for mental health awareness and balanced public health policies. He remains dedicated to holistic mental health approaches and continues to engage in professional and public discourse on these issues.

Why this Lighthouse?

Dr. de Monchy chose the Vuurtoren van IJmuiden as a tribute to his Dutch heritage and a powerful symbol of unwavering resilience. Like this lighthouse, battered by the storm yet standing firm, he has held his ground against waves of coercion and fear that swept through society during COVID-19. The towering red-and-white beacon, engulfed by the power of the sea, mirrors the steadfastness in his commitment to truth, freedom, and mental well-being. Just as the Vuurtoren van IJmuiden guides ships through treacherous waters, Dr. du Monchy has illuminated a path for those seeking clarity and courage amidst the chaos of the pandemic.
